We’ve just tackled some of the hardest problems with HF field deployment: How to get you on the air in seconds, with an internal ATU that tunes both a built-in, multi-band whip and BNC-connected random wires. Providing field logging that’s truly convenient. Creating the optimal user interface for handheld CW operation – because there isn’t always somewhere to sit. And making an HF rig that’s light enough to use HT-style without wrist fatigue.

The result of this effort is the KH1: an ultralight radio you’ll never leave at home. It’s ideal for SOTA, hiking, vacation and business travel, or just that carefree hour after the chores are done.

With the Edgewood Package (shown installed below), your KH1 becomes a fully integrated station, with fold-out log tray and pen, plug-in keyer paddle, battery, charger, ATU, and whip antenna. It all fits in our versatile ES20 carrying case, with room to spare.

GENERAL

TRANSMITTER

• POWER OUTPUT: 5 W nominal, all bands, at 11 VDC.
• SWR TOLERANCE: Infinite. Auto-power rollback on excessive reflected power.
• SIDETONE: 500-800 Hz.
• KEYER: 8-50 WPM. Iambic A and B, paddle reverse, and hand-key mode. 3.5 mm KEY jack can be used with KHBT1 or other paddles. 3 messages; auto-repeat. ATU ATU works with both BNC jack and whip-mount post (M4 x 0.7 thread). Matches most antennas on multiple bands to < 2.5:1. Slide switch selects 15/17 m or 20 m high-Q inductance for whip, or center-off setting for ATU use with BNC jack (bypasses whip inductor). 1-4 s matching time. Per-band L/C memories.

ATU

• ATU works with both BNC jack and whip-mount post (M4 x 0.7 thread). Matches most antennas on multiple bands to < 2.5:1. Slide switch selects 15/17 m or 20 m high-Q inductance for whip, or center-off setting for ATU use with BNC jack (bypasses whip inductor). 1-4 s matching time. Per-band L/C memories.

To charge the battery internally, you'll need both the KHIBC1 Internal Battery Charger and the SS30DV Compact Power Supply (or another external power source). Alternatively, you can remove the KXBT2 battery and charge it externally using the KXBC2 Lithium-Ion Fast Charger.
